There are many things you can do to be prepared for college admissions. As I’ve mentioned, the earlier you prepare, the better your chances of getting into Ivy League schools.
Below is a list of things that you need to focus on:
1. Read newspapers early and often. This is the best way to become well-educated, which will only help the verbal and writing portions of your SAT score, your college admissions essays, and your performance on AP tests and the like
2. Blog. My years working in college admissions taught me that the best college applications always have interesting internet sources – like a personal website, or a blog. Blogs are the easiest things to start. Don’t just write about girlfriend problems or acne – you should write about your passions, serious topics that are interesting to you. It’s a great way to demonstrate technological sophistication, and give college admissions committees more material to review in understanding WHO YOU ARE
3. Read as many college admissions books as possible. While I have my own guide to Ivy League admissions, there are plenty of good resources out there, many of which are on the internet. Google Search is your best friend – start there!
4. Prepare for the SAT as early as possible, and take it before you need to take the PSAT/NMSQT. Why? It’s great practice, Harvard will never consider scores before the PSAT so you have nothing to lose, and it will show you how far you need to improve before the real deal
Follow the 4 tips above if you really want to go to Stanford!
